This week's podcast pick: Rookie Podcast It was only a matter of time until Tavi Gevinson'sRookie Magazine would get its own podcast.
As of April 4, the Rookie Podcast is here, and it has has the same "by and for teenage girls" vibe that the Rookie site has. Sure, Gevinson is 21 now, and some of the guests are adults (they're needed for Rookie's signature Ask a Grown advice series), but the topics are those that precocious 15-year-olds care about: growing up, the creative process, dealing with your parents, feeling the feels.
Let's be honest: They're also topics many adults can relate to.
Gevinson, in partnership with MTV, hosts the roughly 40-minute shows which feature authentic, intimate conversations with her peers. For example, the premiere episode includes a free-wheeling chat with Gevinson's friend Ella Yelich-O’Connor, aka the 20-year-old Lorde. The musician speaks candidly about the gestation (Lorde loves birth metaphors) of her new single Green Light, and about feeling like she's "too much."
